Best Engagement and Elopement Locations Around Los Angeles: From Mountain Views to Coastal Sunsets

Los Angeles is one of the most diverse places in the world for couples looking for an unforgettable engagement session or intimate elopement.
Within a short drive, you can go from rugged mountain landscapes to ocean cliffs, golden hills, and quiet forests.

As a photographer, I believe the best locations are not just beautiful, they should tell a story. The right place creates an atmosphere that reflects who you are as a couple.

Here are some of my favorite engagement and elopement locations around Los Angeles, including the San Gabriel Mountains and Santa Barbara County.

1. San Gabriel Mountains
For Couples Who Love Adventure

The San Gabriel Mountains are one of my favorite places for couples who want something beyond a traditional city photoshoot. The mountains offer dramatic views, winding trails, pine forests, and golden light that creates a cinematic feel.

Whether you’re hiking to a viewpoint, sharing a quiet moment among the trees, or watching the sunset over the valleys below, the San Gabriels create a sense of adventure and intimacy.

Best for:

  • Adventurous couples

  • Hiking lovers

  • Sunset engagement sessions

  • Intimate elopements

Best time to shoot:
Golden hour, especially in the fall and winter when the air is often clearer.

A bride and groom share a moment during their wedding ceremony, framed by ornate wooden columns, with a patterned yellow and green background.

2. Santa Barbara Coast
Classic California Romance

Santa Barbara has some of the most romantic scenery in Southern California. From dramatic cliffs, to quiet beaches, to the Santa Barbara County Courthouse and Downtown; it offers a timeless coastal backdrop that feels both elegant and natural.

The coastline is perfect for couples who want photos that feel relaxed, emotional, and full of movement. Walking barefoot along the beach, watching the waves, or sharing a sunset together creates moments that feel genuine rather than staged.

The Courthouse and Downtown are perfect backdrops, and some of the most iconic for elopements and engagements with stunning Spanish Colonial Revival architecture.

Best for:

  • Romantic engagement sessions

  • Elopements

  • Couples who love the ocean

  • Sunset portraits

Best time to shoot:
The hour before sunset when the coastline gets warm, soft light.

A woman standing with her hand over her mouth, laughing or smiling, while a man kneels in front of her on a gravel trail during sunset, with a mountain range and shrubs in the background.

4. Point Dume
Ocean Cliffs and Open Space

Point Dume offers sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean with a little more space and variety than many Malibu beaches.

It’s a great option for couples who want a mix of cliffside views, beach moments, and California scenery.

Best for:

  • Romantic portraits

  • Sunset sessions

  • Couples wanting variety
